New Broadcaster For World Poker Tour & Man Utd Star Caught Playing Poker During Lockdown

It has been a busy weekend in the world of poker, with some huge news being revealed surrounding the future of the World Poker Tour. Meanwhile, there was some unsavoury news from Argentina, as it was revealed that Manchester United star Marcos Rojo was breaking lockdown regulations to play poker with a friend.

The lockdown across the world following the outbreak of the coronavirus means that all of the competitions that were due to take place on-land over the weekend were cancelled. Poker players could use this time to catch up on some of the best podcasts. There has been no further announcement at this point regarding when competitions may begin again in casinos. That has meant the majority of the action has come online this past weekend, with Van Hoof winning a competition to surpass the two million landmark.

New Broadcast Deal For World Poker Tour

The WPT are continuously looking for new ways to get their products to the adoring audience, and they may have struck gold after announcing that they have agreed a deal with THETA.tv to broadcast all the upcoming events. It could be a huge deal for the WPT, as they are the first non-eSports event to be broadcasted on the streaming site. As part of the deal, the site will be showing WPT Alpha8 broadcasts and King of the Club.

This has only added a new way for poker lovers to watch all the latest action, as WPT action can now be found across a multitude of different avenues. Fans in Los Angeles and Las Vegas will have the widest available selection of broadcast options as the WPT made their first route into syndicated television through these routes.

There is also a major broadcaster on board for the WPT, as they signed a five year deal with FOX to remain on the regional networks in 2016. The WPT action has therefore been televised on FOX television since 2009 and will continue to be on the network until the end of Season XIX next year. It’s hard to imagine a time when poker will not be televised, given that it has been a common source of entertainment for nearly 20 years.

Manchester United Star In Hot Water

It wasn’t all positive news over the weekend, as one Manchester United star found himself in hot water after breaking the lockdown regulations to play poker with his friends. The Sun reported that the defender has broken the regulations numerous times now. Marcos Rojo is currently playing his football back in Argentina, after United made the decision to loan him out to Estudiantes.

The video was shared across the social media channels, with Rojo seen smoking and playing poker at a friend’s house. Rojo’s decision has been condemned by the clubs that are associated with him, as the lockdown period in Argentina has already been extended until May 10th.

The defender’s loan at the Argentinean club is due to end at the end of this season, as he will return to Old Trafford. However, following the obvious breach of lockdown regulations; United could be looking to sell the defender as soon as possible.
