Dan Zack Wins Prestigious WSOP Player of the Year Award

The World Series of Poker is slowly coming to a close in Las Vegas, which means some of the biggest prices available are in the process of being handed out. One of the big announcements this week was the news that Dan Zack had been named the World Series of Poker Player of the Year after topping a very illustrious leaderboard.

Few would argue against the American picking up the award as he was consistent throughout the competition, and eventually finished just under 500 points clear of Daniel Weinman, who finished second in the overall standings.

Dan Zack Named WSOP Player of the Year

There was no secret that Zack was always likely to be among the main contenders for the top prize this year, as he has been in the hunt for the top prize since bursting onto the global scene back in 2017. However, this was to be the year that he would finally land the illustrious honour for the very first time, as he was able to finish just under 500 points clear of the next player on the list. He was excellent throughout the events that were run this year, which included two victories where he was able to get his hands on golden bracelets.

Along with his victories, he also finished in cash places on four occasions throughout the World Series of Poker, which included two further appearances in the final table of events that were staged in Las Vegas. The winning points total for the Player of the Year this year was 4,530, with Weinman finishing second with a total of 4,040. Koray Aldermir finished third in the overall standings, while the remaining places in the top five were taken by Shaun Deeb and David Peters. Joao Vieira, Joao Simao Peres and Alex Foxen also confirmed their places in the top ten of the standings.

Zack’s run at the WSOP this year still isn’t over either, as he will get one final opportunity to walk away with a further honour, as he competes against other previous circuit winners in the Tournament of Champions, which will bring the World Series of Poker for 2022 to a close.

Zack Leads Dominant Players

One of the biggest achievements that Zack has achieved this year is his feat of winning multiple bracelets at the WSOP this year. In total, only three players have achieved that in 2022. His victories came in the Omaha Hi Lo 8 or Better Championship and the Seven Card Stud Hi Lo 8 or Better Championship. The victories saw him pick up returns of over $700,000 in the WSOP in Vegas this year.

The other players to have won multiple events at the event this year were Lawrence Brandt and Espen Jorstad. It wasn’t such a successful event this year for some standout names from previous years. Last year’s player of the year, Josh Arieh, finished third in two events but could only finish 41st overall. Meanwhile, Daniel Negreanu endured a competition to forget, as he lost over $1 million. Furthermore, Phil Hellmuth was also not in contention for the top prize.
