Cryptocurrency and blockchain technology are making their way into the poker market as mainstays, and we are seeing more and more connections between these industries. Recently, The World Poker Tour has decided to hop on board this trend and has named blockchain-powered sportsbook FansUnite an official gaming partner.

Poker and Blockchain Cross Promotion

The World Poker Tour is one of the most recognizable names in the poker market, known for its work in both gaming an entertainment. Now, the company will be entering the technology world by working with a blockchain platform provider.

If you’re not familiar with FansUnite, it is an online sportsbook that is powered by blockchain technology. The company has been built on the idea that the Ethereum blockchain would help to make sports betting not only more secure but more transparent, which would benefit punters from around the world. It is the first decentralized sports betting blockchain betting platform.

As a new partner of the World Poker Tour, FansUnite will be able to reach a wider range of players around the world. The WPT brand has attracted millions of players and fans over the years, and its new partner will hugely benefit from these connections. In return, the WPT will be able to dip its toe in the blockchain betting market, which is predicted to develop greatly in coming years. CEO of FansUnite, Darius Eghdami states that the partnership will not only introduce Fans United to “millions of poker fans across the globe” but also gives WPT partners an insider look at its revolutionary technology.

The Fine Print

FansUnite and The World Poker Tour have not yet revealed all of the details about their partnership, but they have given us a bit of insight into the deal. The blockchain sportsbook will be featured in promotions at WPT events in Europe and Asia and its branding will be integrated into broadcasts of  the WPT’s next season. Cross promotion across both company’s social media channels will also take place, along with the introduction of “Plays of the Week” that will be showed on Super Channel.

There are many ways that The World Poker Tour and Fans Unite will be coming together to associate their brands. As such, this partnership as plenty of potential to attract more poker players to blockchain technology while giving the WPT the chance to learn more about how blockchain can benefit its players.

Poker and cryptocurrency seem like a natural match, and many operators are already pairing up the two technologies. There are plenty of online poker sites that deal in bitcoin and other digital currencies, but there are many more opportunities for collaboration. We hope that the new partnership between WPT and Fans Unite will push these developments even further.
